We just bought 20 C-class machines for training purposes. They come pre-installed with 11.0 and with it's CDs, licenses and what not. Out of the 20 boxes, one of them had problem with it's power-supply. Just watch out for the warranty clause before you buy 'em.

Hey everyone,
I have found that on ebay there are some HPUX workstations that look good go play around with and even 11.0 and 11i Install CDs, Aplication cds and what not. Is it ok to buy these type of things of ebay ? They say no codewords come whith the software.I assume that is for the APP cds and not the install cds. I didnt realize you could sell or buy HPUX online like that either. My main thing is I dont want to buy anything that I am not supposed to be buying from a 3rd party source.Just wondering if this is an ok route to go or if i should avoid it totaly.

Thanks,
Richard

One of my friend bought a Sun workstation through eBay, for practise at home, so far so good, I think it is the similar thing regarding HP, it is really depends, if you bought it for business, I suggest you go to HP directly, if only for fun, why not?

The hardware is not an issue (unless it's stolen or something illegal like that).

Not sure about the s/w licenses.

There is a law called "receiving stolen property". Not sure how that would apply unless you had some knowledge - but there was a very famous case not too long ago, where some companies bought some equipment from disreputable HP re-sellers and actually had the FBI come in a take that equipment - now again I'm not sure this is relevant here. Just thought I'd throw it out.

What about software with no codewords? You can only get the cds with a support contract right? So is whoever gets them allowed to sell them? And is it right to buy them?

Richard

Richard,

Not sure about the software, but I think a call to HP ought to answer it. I have a number for the licensing group but my email is down - you can probably find it here somewhere. Sorry.

Richard,

I just bought a 4GB disk for my C160 from the unix nerd. He sells on ebay. You can buy from him direct. Take a look at
http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/

He's also an HP channel partner.

Regards,

Dave.
