The database uses java, so I hope that's installed.

I just had a conference call with Oracle and the noted that support for 8.1.7 is being pulled 12/31/2003.

I'd plan an upgrade path.

I'm not exactly sure what support expiration means in the oracle world. It means no more big patches except for security fixes. I'm not sure what a call to the support center will garner in terms of a response 1/1/2004.

SEP

Hi Ghulam,

Sorry for the late reply. I was out of office for the last two days.

Well when you installed Oracle RDBMS 8.1.7 then go for the latest pathcset which is 8.1.7.4. You can try to dowmload from Oracle Metalink, or log a TAR with oracle and they will send the patchset in a CD in about 3 - 4 working days.

Attached are the documents, which provides brief description about the init.ora parameters relating to performance, and KERNEL parameters setting for oracle 8i (8.1.7) rdbms. It give3s few examples of different configurations.
