Hi,
We have installed oracle 8.1.7 64-bit on HP-UX11.00 64bit, now the question is Can we delete the old ORACLE_HOME directories? (lib,migrate,names,network,etc,etc...)
Best regards,
Arlindo Ferreira.

In a word, yes. They should be no longer needed. To be safe, in case you have some SQL scripts still possibly using them, I would rename the old ORACLE_HOME directory to something else and leave things alone for a little while to see if everything is ok and then rm the directories.
If not sure rename the old oracle home dirs and leave them as they are for a few days and if nothing break, you can remove 'em.

Hi there.
I woulde leave them and rename them. If you need to export data to your old version or something else, you will be happy, that you still have them.
Rgds
Alexander M. Ermes

Hello,
People above are right.
removing them might cause problem.
The library files of oracle might be used by your application which is connecting to oracle.
So if you remove them then your application requires a configuration to your new oracle library path.
So it is good to rename them and check everything and then go for deletion after some time ..even a month.

Thanks
G Manikandan
