hi,
this seams to be a network problem. if not indicating any thing in the alert log file.
please check the listener status or you can even create a new listener
also you can check with the network administrator to check the network componants if there is any network problem ( may be ip conflict with your server or anything else.)
thanks
Ehab.

Hi all:

We have rebooted our system last morning and it didn??t start database.

We??ve tried to start in single user mode, manually mount file systems and database could be started manually.

If we start net, hpether and hp100bt before database, database start process hangs and alert_sid.log stops on "core_dump_dest" message.

Any idea????

I've never heard of a database hanging if the network started up first. Can you elaborate on what kind of database this is?

live free or die
harry

Was anything related to networking or the database changed prior to the reboot?

Please post the content of alert_sid.log, I believe this is an Oracle install ? Can you also check if the "cdump" file exist, that's the file defined by core_dump_dest. Maybe core_dump_dest could not find "cdump" therefore it hangs up.
