Hi Rajendran,

your root- filesystem needs to be stored in a logical volume which uses contignous space on a disc. Logical Volume Manager assigns new space when increasing the size of a logical volume in a non- contignous way normally, you have the possibility to use contignous space allocation for a lvol, but the space you need for your root-volume is allready in use for other volumes. So you have to make a recovery-tape and restore it, during installation make the desired size for your root-filesystem.

Allways stay on the bright side of life!

Peter

first run

find / -xdev -size +1000000c

It will list all file on root filesystem with more than 1MB of size. It is very tipical that anybody has created a /dev/rmt/om instead 0m, and otehr things like that.

Maybe it is not too urgent.

Hi

the only easy way ot increase the / is to use the ignite .

you need to install the ignite , after that to use the make_tape_recovery to copy all the system disk to the tape .

check the install.log to see that you didnt have any problem with the ignite backup .

boot from the cassete and over there choose install .

you will get the menu of the install and over there you can change the size of the / .

if you want to change other filesystem on the vg00 you can also use the online jfs but not for / .

alternatively, create and mount a new filesystem.

For example if you have /mydocs filling up... create a new lvol

lvcreate -L 400 vg00
(400 MB)

newfs -F vxfs /dev/vg00/lvol#
(lvol# = lvol9 for example)

mkdir /tmp/mountpoint
mount /dev/vg00/lvol9 /tmp/mountpoint

cp -Rp /mydocs/ /tmp/mountpoint

Backup:
=======
tar -cv mydocs
mv mydocs /tmp/mountpoint/backup
(I don't want to be responsible for cp failures, rm -Rf errors!)
=======

rm -Rf /mydocs/
(careful)!

umount /tmp/mountpoint
mkdir /mydocs
mount /dev/vg00/lvol# /mydocs

mount -p > /etc/fstab

bdf

Later,
Bill

Hi,

You cannot increase the size of "/" without reinstalling OS on the disk. This is because the "/", "/stand" and swap need contiguous blocks. To increase the size of any of these three lv's, you have to reinstall the OS on the root disk. Take a ignite backup and then reinstall the OS on the disk using the ignite backup.

Ignite can be downloaded freely from the hp software site. Here is the link on ignite download,

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/download.html

Here is the ignite link for more info / faq's,

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/

Hope this helps.

regds
