Just to make the previous response less typing, you can just type "off" at the end of your mt command.
>mt -t /dev/rmt/0m off
HP-UX 9.05 and higher have no diffuculty with the 3 character mt commands. (Not sure about pre-9 HP-UX)

After seeing the question re. CD-ROM eject, I have to ask: Is there a command to eject a DDS-3 tape drive, or is it also you-gotta-push-the-button?
Our Master B/U runs on Saturdays and Increms Mon-Thu @1:00 A.M. Last Monday was a holiday and Monday's Incremental overwrote Saturday's Master.
Any other way not to perform Monday's Increm if Master is still in the drive?

We use Microlite's Edge Backup and it is kicked off by cron.

Thanks!

Yes you can eject a tape with:

mt -t tapedrive offl

do a man on mt for more information.

goodluck.

PS. You can do a ioscan -fnC tape to find out what the tapedrive device name is.
