Error adding Jetdirect printer

Printer Network Interface:
1) Create printer configuration
Enter the printer's LAN hardware address: 080009affed8

Probing the hardware interface for identity. This could
take few seconds....

LAN HW address is filled in correctly but I still can??t add a printer (tried also other printers/HW addresses)

Do you succed in a linkloop ? Maybe there are connection problem.

if your lan card is ppa1, try

linkloop -i 1 0x080009affed8

even if i know it's obvious,
does the ping IP_ADDRESS
success ?

Are you doing this from HP-UX with SAM?

What error message do you get?

Hi,

Thanx but still nothing helps.

* I can ping the printer eg. 192.168.170.27
* Commando linkloop -i 1 0x080009affed8 doesn??t work..error: No valid interface associated with PPA Number 1
* I start jetadmin with hppi commando in Unix prompt and also tried SAM, both same error: as describe in previous message and...

Problem encountered during this process which could be one of the following:

1] The device is not in the network
2] The device is already configured with another IP address,
(thro DHCP/BOOTP), Remove it and start again.
3] Hardware interface is not an official HP Jetdirect

Hi,

Typically, I don't use the HW address when using JetAdmin. Try using only the IP address when setting up the printer. Also, I put the printer in the /etc/hosts file, either locally, or on the NIS server. In this way, I can use the printer's name to configure it with hppi.

If you can ping the IP address "arp -a" will verify the Mac address, Just in case you have the wrong one.
