cu should work, but you have to remember to update /etc/uucp/Devices and /etc/uucp/Drivers files. Alternatively you could use kermit. Also you could use a program called dinc from Digi. Its distributed as public domain, but you'd have to compile the source code (very very simple). Its a nice little program very similar to tip in Solaris.

http://support.digi.com/centraldata/prog/dinc/00_index.htm

Hope this helps.

-Santosh

Hi all,

On a sun box, I can run "tip hardwire" to connect from my serial port (as configured in /etc/remote) to another box and use it as a console. Is there an equivilent for the hp side? I've tried 'cu -l/dev/tty0p0 dir' as exampled in the man page for cu, but didn't work... failing with: Connect failed: Requested device/system name not known.

What's missing?

Thanks,

Pete

Hi,

No, this cannot be done on a HP system.
The best way to this is have a console
terminal hooked up to a black-box switch.

-Michael

I thought you could use remote console to move the console to another terminal device, however it can be dangerous.

I suggest setting up a web-console. This works great because you laptop can be the console. You hookup your serial-connection to the web-console, then your web-console to the network.

This allows you do anything you want from a browser that is on the same network. Also works well from home, and beats driving in.
