Setting wrong?

I have a workstation that when Exceeds goes to poll it for its list of systems available to choose from, it takes like 45 seconds for this one in particular to show up in the list. When I telnet to the box no problems or delays. But again it takes forever to show up in the Exceed list. Anyone have any idea what configuration files I should be looking at?
Its throwing me because it doesn't seem to be network related if I can telnet just fine to it from anywhere with no delays.

What is your version of Exceed? You may need consider to install the latest patch for Exceed.

Hi Angie,

does the DNS lookup or reverse lookup for this special box from your PC's DNS client work/work fast enough? Or could it be there is a timeout when resolving this name???

Thx for replying.
I am on version 6.2.0.0 of Exceed.

And when I go to the command line on my PC and do an nslookup of the unix workstation I am talking about, it responds fast.

I don't think it is DNS problem in this case, I am pretty sure it is something wrong with you Exceed configuration, do you have any Exceed is working on another workstation, comparing the configuration with the good one maybe can help, or you may call Hummingbird support or go to their web site to find any clue? Although v6.2 is old.

From my experience, you have to install the patch first before you do any other troubleshooting. Go to

and find any suitable patch for your environment. Good luck.

Well I found out that its happening on a newer version of Exceed as well. Any other ideas?

Hi again, Angie,

actually the DNS timeout would be happening on the UNIX box, as the XDM/dtlogin tries to resolve the name of the client requesting a login dialog (to check it against "Xaccess"), so please try the "nslookup" on the UNIX box against your PC's address and its name.

Are you running XDMCP-Broadcast ??

Basically, how are you starting your exceed session. I have it, and I'll try the same thing here.

Try to set XDMCP-query in Exceed Configuration (communication section) and set IP of this workstation to see if it works fast enough.
When put it DNS name. If this slow - you have problem resolving its name.
If you use XDMCP-broadcast - you might need to check your broadcast address.

I am still not able to get this to show up in Exceed quickly. Pauses like a minute and then shows up.
I have checked all that you have said to check. Any other ideas? We even went as far as swapping the network cord with another system that is running perfect and the problem followed. So there must be something wrong on this box somewhere. I have checked and rechecked the /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file.

One, XDMCP broadcast, won't be fast.

Two, use predefined xstart configs.
