Jobs clear the system print queue when all of the data has been accepted by the printer. I would guess that what is happening is that relatively small jobs (or the tail ends of jobs) have already been transmitted to teh printer's memory when the paper runs out. These jobs will have cleared the system queue. Normally, the printer will retain the jobs in memory and continue printing once the paper has been loaded. It appears that in your case something is intermittently interfering with this. Is someone cycling the printer to change paper?

Jobs are deleted from the printer queue when the printer run out of paper. This occurs when sending jobs from an HP 3000 server
to a 9000 print server specially at night. The printer is a Laserjet 5Si.
In some cases when you check the printer queue some files are generated while the original job is still in the queue.
In some cases the job dissappears, but in other it starts printing and then does not finish. This is happening in 2 printers and they worked fine before.
Thanks.

Thanks Alan,

we have the printer in a restricted room, and when you see the printer in the morning there is only one message: load paper tray 2, and then you put the paper and it displays warming up then the printer begins printing but the job is cut,
