Isn't it sad?

Isn't it sad that with so many HP-UX gurus around, rock solid hardware and a rock solid operating system HP chooses to put the forums in a flaky Intel/Microsoft IIS implementation?

I've been having all kinds of problems on the forums like "HTTP 401" errors that go away after a few reloads, intermittent failures on port 80 (I get a 'connection refused' every three tries), and so on...

C'mon HP... You should be using a PA solution here!

I agree..

I must add that i do not experice the same problems that you have.
I think it is a great site but it is not releable. I like to see more 9-s in the uptime and that does not apply for just this forum.

Hi Marco,

You should take michael's suggestion and post your problem to the Link he has mentioned. Do take some time, so that you can put your reply to that link in a little detail, explaining what sort of problems you are facing. Frankly i don't face any problem at all. I do get a problem now and then, but most of the time, i get a pretty stable connection with no problems as mentioned by you.

Now that I have the link I'll be reporting the problems for sure. It's interesting though, because this morning I had a lot of "connection refused" errors. Most of the time I get a HTTP/401, but a reload will fix it.

Regarding the connection issue, yeah i have been facing similar errors which goes away after reloading attempts.

Probably the forum application only supports running on top of IIS. *shrug*

Correct me if I am wrong but this forum runs on Vignette Story Server.

The forums were put up as an experiment and the quickest way was to put them up on an Intel box with IIS.

There was no way to know that they would become one of the most popular items on the ITRC.

I would imagine (actually would hope) that a redesign using Apache is being looked into to solve these problems. Especially since HP has a version that is supposed to be bulletproof.

I couldn't agree more! They could have easily brought this up on a 9000. We don't put anything on ms machines that are on the internet (security reasons), and we have limited use for them internally.

Why not put this forum on a rack of A-class servers running Apache? I would have!

Error 404, connections refused err 1061 etc...?

So Im not the only one complaining in Europe after all?
I thought that it was because French speaking Switzerland was such a small market no one is interrested....

I added the forums to netcraft ages ago, it's been a while since I checked, but if this kind of reliability were to happen to www.hp.com I'm sure there'd be a few heads beaten?!

Victor, off topic question about the Swiss since you talked about languages.

There was a program on National Geographic about the Vatican, the Swiss guards were all speaking German.

Are there separate areas that talk different languages? Or how does that work?

seeing as how i'm taking german and they insist on teaching culture when one takes it at a university, i can actually answer the swiss language question.

turns out that the swiss were at one point part og austria. because of that, most of them speak german with such a bad accent that they can't be understood by germans. the next largest contingent of the national languages is french, wand there are four others that don't even have double digits inthe percent of the populace that speak it...and as of the making of the 3 yr old textbook thatwe use, one of those is declared a dying language because only about 1,000 people actually speak it. Yiddish, by comparison, right before the recent resurgence in people learning and speaking it, had several thousand people.
