Hello all,

My company is planning on procuring a couple of C-class Unigraphics CAD machines.

I need to know if it is possible to telnet to the machine and run Unigarphics (by opening an X session) on a domb terminal. If this is possible HOW?????? .

I am able to use an Emulator (X Manager) on a Win95 PC and access and run Unigraphics.

If anybody can help me out , it will be of great help.

Cheers,

Trent

Depends on what you mean by dumb terminal...

I'm guessing you don't mean a character based terminal.

Are you meaning something like a remote boot type of environment? If so, then this is possible, you can have like a diskless workstation and run X-windows on the server end.

Although, depending on how many users you want to have a C-class may struggle.

Hi Trent,

Like they are called, a dumb terminal is a dumb one with no graphics support. you cannot run X on a dumb terminal.

You need a graphics terminal, environment to run X.

Hope this helps.

Regds
That dog won't hunt. You have several options:
1) Use PC X emulators 2) Use X-terminals (e.g. NCD) 3) Purchase some more B or C boxes on the
used market - they are quite cheap these days.

Whatever method you use, you C box is going to run out of steam very quickly in this environment. Typically, 1 CAD/CAM user on the console can very heavily load a C box. Remember, these are workstations. One large model can bring these boxes to a crawl.
