cannot login in console

Good Evening.

Why is it that sometimes I cannot login in the HP-machine that I'm using? After I input the username and password, the screen would just go blank then returns back to the login screen. Please help.

Hi:

Check for the presence of 'etc/securetty'. Only 'root' is allowed to log in successfully on the ttys listed in this file. To use the console, the keyworkd "console" must appear in the file. Does this help?

If you are running CDE it may be a network problem.

This sounds CDE

/var/dt/Xerrors

$HOME/.dt/startlog and errorlog

If no help run

/usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt and correct any errors
