Hi everybody!

Backup s/w - Legato Networker 5.5.3.Build.267
OS - HP-UX 11.00

Upgraded the OS from 10.20 recently (cold install). The backups on Networker server fails, but client backups working okay. These are the errors:
"nsrmmd not available
restarting nsrmmd # on host_name in 2 minutes
cl_none:ss_none done saving to pool 'pool_none'
save: RPC error, Unable to receive
save: shutdown failed
save: lost connection to server, exiting"

Actions taken - Recovered media and file indexes, rebuilt index files (no errors reporting from indexes), reconfigured jukebox and media drives, reinstalled software etc.

Any idea?

Thanks!
Shiju

Have you verified that your network configuration is set up correctly? Check you RPC services.

HTH
Marty

Hi Marty,

The network was setup exactly similar. The rpc services were found working! Are you specific to any services? I found all nsr services are working with rpcinfo -p command.

Thanks!
Shiju

"RPC error..unable to receive" .. are you up-to-date on ONC cumulative patch. This could be a case of mis-behaving rpc.rstatd.

Hi S.K,

Coule you please give me the patch numbers? I have the Sept. 200 patch bundles loaded on the system now and I think the ONC patches are - PHNE_17101 and PHNE_25484.

An addition - while checking the core files generated I found another error there -"mmap failed for dld". Another patch issue?

Thanks!
Shiju

The one I have loaded is ..
PHNE_26387 (11.00 ONC/NFS General Release/Performance Patch) - Creation Date: 02/07/02
From the patch ..
"The amount of memory associated with the rpc.rstatd process continues to grow without ever being returned to the system".
If that really happens on your system it could explain why you're getting "rcp-unable to receive" error. The "mmap.." error could also be another patch issue, take a look at "ld and linker tools cumulative", I bet there will be some issues related to mmap() function call.
Hi S.K and all,

Sorry for the late reply, but I had issues replying posts yesterday.

I installed the patches (ONC and ld), but have the same errors. Infact after installing patches (libc cumulative patch, which was a dependency patch), my ASU/9000 stopped working! I had to reinstall (patch PHNE_26292) and reconfigure ASU to resolve that issue.

Any other idea? Thanks for all the inputs so far.

Shiju

Hi Shiju,

Just a longshot, but how about the latest patch from Legato ???? I can't find if 5.5.3.build.267 is the latest.

ftp://ftp.legato.com/pub/NetWorker/Unix/5.5.3/

Kind regards,

Robert-Jan.
