Hi all!
I configured the FTPD server with ftpaccess enabled. There is a collegue who wants to ftp to that server. When he does he sees the start-screen but it takes more then 1 minute for the login prompt appears. It looks sort of NS lookups to me done by the FTP server. Does anyone know what this could be?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I had a similar problem to this one recently. It turns out that I had the wrong IP address for the gateway for my default route. Don't know if you have the same problem, but it might be worth checking.

JP
Hi Barelds,

Sure looks like name lookup to me.
Check both hostname & reverse (IP) lookups from both sides.

Also I'd probably do a traceroute from both ends as well. Could be a goofy route getting in the way.

Rgds,
Jeff

Hi

My two words:
If this is DNS problem DNS would be only at the beginning, when resolving names.
If it is routing, the delay would be for every package, so the transmission would be poor also.

Good luck

Adam
Hi all!

Thanks for the replies.
Whe are trying at the moment to put the client ip-adresses in the host file, so they can be resolved.

I also tried to find out if name resolving can be switched of for FTPD on HP-UX 11, but i couldn't find anything. Does anyone has experience with that? Can it be done?

Thanks again!

Grz. Johan
