Job scheduling package with Peoplesloth

The job scheduling package that comes with peoplesloth doesn't work.... We are looking at another package called 'AutoSys' from CA.
The problem I have with attempting to use this package is that it doesn't support Informix (our DB of choice) but Sybase (in-built, which we can cope with). The problem I have is that 'AutoSys' requires the use of /dev/async driver and I am not wanting to go down this particular road.

Has anyone out there used this package, or the Peoplesloth schedular, or used the async driver with Informix.

Hi Michael,

I used AutoSys at my previous job. We had an Oracle DB as the AutoSys DB though. We also had the AutoSys server and DB on a Sun machine, not an HP. I don't if Sun had an async driver, I certainly don't recall having to set that up on the Sun server though. We had HP clients set up to use this server and the client portion did not require the use of /dev/async.

At my new job, we use Maestro as a scheduler and it seems to work fairly well. I am not sure about Maestro's requirements for a DB. I haven't played with it that much yet.

I don't think I was much help.

Hi Michael,

We here are just transitioning from AutoSys 3.4 to Control-M 6.1 from BMC.
I don't think our DBAs liked AutoSys much at all & I won't even mention what they say about CA.......

We run Oracle exclusively & I checked & we didn't use /dev/async.
Our AutoSys implementation uses/used the inetd.conf & services files. So does Control-M.

My biggest complaint so far w/Control-M is installation. Sheesh you's think that a company as big as BMC could learn how to pkg SW for HPs & Suns!?!? I've already had to pkg their Control-SA (centralized UID/GID administration) & it was no walk in the park. Would you believe they write all their install scripts in csh & require the admin user to run a c-shell? .......stuck in the '80s he groans as he shakes his head........

Rgds,
Jeff
I wouldn't let a CA product on the property, and you wouldn't find one of their cd's in my hands unless they were cold and dead!

Of course that's just my opinion, and I'm sticking to it!

Honestly, I'd go back to punch paper tape before using a CA product!

In my little mind, I put them as slimier than veritas, but that's just my opinion :-)

of course, it could be that I'm stuck in maine migrating DATA from

AIX

SSA disks

to

an EMC symmetrix.

Why did I tell them I could spell AIX?????????

live free or die
harry

Hi Harry,

Sounds like you like CA products as much as I do.... The bad news is I'm not in a position to say yes or no to what applications we install. The good news is I can present evidence and opinions of things that do stink.

Too bad about your unwanted holiday. Hope it improves ! I can't spell AIX either.... (I keep my mouth shut)

Cheers
Michael
