Hey, what the hell is 179cms and 76kgs ?? is that short and heavy, or tall and lean, or tall and heavy, or short and lean .... us stupid americans are stuck in a world where we measure things by pounds and inches, yet we have 9mm bullets, drink pepsi from 2liter bottles, and measure our engines displacement in cubic centimeters. MAN WE ARE STRANGE!

does anyone know the metric term for megaton? I was just wondering how to translate a nuclear bomb's blast

live free or die
harry

Harry,

* 1 US ton = 2000 lbs
* 1000 kilograms = 1 metric ton
* Divide pounds by 2.2 to get kilograms

So if my math is right a US megaton would be 4.4 metric megatons - correct.?

Jeff

Harry,

As to your 1st question:

* Multiply inches by 2.54 to get centimeters - so 179 cms would be 70 inches or 5'10"

And

* Divide pounds by 2.2 to get kilograms - so 76 kgs would be 167 lbs

I'd say that's relatively lean but not that tall - just average.

Jeff

So Clay,

What would that be in Newtons?

Here's some good ones:

Three Laws of Thermodynamics (paraphrased):
First Law: You can't get anything without working for it.
Second Law: The most you can accomplish by work is to break even.
Third Law: You can't break even.

There are only three laws of nature, and one exception.
1) F=ma; 2) E=m(c squared); 3) You can't push a rope
From these three laws all others can be derived.

Matter is fundamentally lazy:- It always takes the path of least effort
Matter is fundamentally stupid:- It tries every other path first.
That is the heart of physics - The rest is details

Law of Selective Gravity:
An object will fall so as to do the most damage.
Jenning's Corollary:
The chance of the bread falling with the buttered side down is
directly proportional to the cost of the carpet.

Cold Fusion: Looney Theory of the Week
"Hey Mike?"
"Yeah, Gabe?"
"We got a problem down on Earth.
Harry,

Thought about the megaton question over the weekend & boy - I had my equation backwards!.
The ration would be metric 1.1 - to - US 1....SO a US megaton would be approx 0.9 metric megaton in TNT weight.
Lesson is, either way you're going to be a crispy critter i.e. TOAST.
Good thing I didn't screw up the weight/height question or JRF would have been HUGE ;~)

Rgds,
Jeff
