I was trying to add a FC tachyon driver and relatetd patches on an rp7400 and recieved the following errors. Anybody know how to get around this and continue the install?

Generating module: krm...
Compiling /stand/build/conf.c...
Loading the kernel...
ld: Unsatisfied symbol "prf_klog_getcount" in file /usr/conf/lib/libhp-ux.a[klog.o]
ld: Unsatisfied symbol "prf_klog_getstring" in file /usr/conf/lib/libhp-ux.a[klog.o]
ld: Unsatisfied symbol "lock_claim" in file /usr/conf/lib/liblvm.a[lv_hp.o]
ld: Unsatisfied symbol "lock_disown" in file /usr/conf/lib/liblvm.a[lv_hp.o]
4 errors.
*** Error exit code 1

Stop.
make failure.
ERROR: The command "/usr/sbin/mk_kernel", which is used to rebuild the kernel, has failed. Because kernel-related filesets were installed, this command must be executed by "swinstall", without failures, before the load can continue. Check the above output for details about the failure. NOTE: The Install Phase has suspended. Check the above output for reasons.

I have had this problem and error message three times.

The first time was on an 11.00 system after installing PHKL_18543 the LITS(Line in the Sand) patch twice. Recovery involved a forced re-install of every single patch that the LITS patch trashed. I did not as Support recommended need to reinstall the OS.

The second time was when a Hardware update patch and my system file was trashed.

In that case, I restored the system file from a backup that existed prior to the problem, and redid my kernel.

My kernel was then missing drives for my Tachyon card and I had to download an reinstall that driver to get my system working again.

This was an old D class system and it still has a quirk. I have to unplug the cable from the tachyon card to get it to do an Ignite restore.

Hopefully you have an ignite tape, but if you are careful and always leave yourself a backout plan, you should be able to recover from your current problem.

If you need direct communicaiton, there is a website in my profile and you can email me through there.

Steve

Hi Mike

you need to install this patches with the option of reinstall !!!!

Solution: Rebuild fails because of missing dependent modules due to
errors at patch install. Summary of modules and their corresponding
patches:

symbol defined in module patch
------------------------------------------------------
prf_klog_getcount subr_prf.c@@r11ros/10 [PHKL_24028/PACHRDME/English]
prf_klog_getstring subr_prf.c@@r11ros/10 [PHKL_24028/PACHRDME/English]
lock_claim rw_lock.c@@r11ros/5 [PHKL_22266/PACHRDME/English]
lock_disown rw_lock.c@@r11ros/5 [PHKL_22266/PACHRDME/English]

Reinstall these patches and dependencies if those are missing, too

i have build the bundle with there dep.
this is the patches you need to install :
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHKL_27553
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHKL_18543
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_23651
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_25902
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHKL_28180
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHKL_27980
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHKL_20016
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHKL_28202
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_26017
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHKL_28150
hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_27369

choose the option of reinstall .

Hi,

if u have re-installed by mistake PHKL_18543, u have to reboot from the Ignite tape - hopefully u have one. Otherwise u can spend many days trying to correct the kernel (I did that once, that's why it's called the line in the sand :-().
Then perform the steps the guys before me advised you. They are right.
