Netscape always popup a window : "This page contains information of a type (application/x-java-vm) that can only be viewed with the appropriate Plug-in" The problem, is when I click on OK to download the Plug-in, I'm redirected to the Java 1.4 downlaod page....

Somebody have a clue??
Thanks
Jonathan
Hi

Did you enable the plugin

Have you tried running ControlPanel via JRE directly:
/opt/java1.3/jre/bin/ControlPanel

If this works enable it.

It would seem that Java JPI would not enable via NS preferences

There are no plugins found . see
http://bizforums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xe4b63a1c04ffd61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

and

see http://www.hp.com/workstations/risc/standard/software/netscape/ver_470/faqs.html

What is the difference between Communicator 4.79 and earlier releases of Communicator 4.7x?
Netscape provides periodic maintenance releases for enterprise customers that include minor feature enhancements as well as improvements to overall stability and security. Netscape released Communicator 4.79 in November, 2001.

Which version of Java is provided by Netscape Communicator 4.7x?
Communicator 4.7x comes bundled with a Netscape implementation of the Java Virtual Machine version 1.1.5. Whenever the browser encounters an "applet" tag during the rendering of a web page, it invokes the Netscape native Java Virtual Machine.

If my application requires a later version of Java, how do I change the Java used by Communicator?
Netscape Communicator 4.78 and later has a feature which enables users to select a preference to always use the native HP-UX Java 1.3.1 Java Runtime Environment to execute Java applets. This preference is not set by default; it must be selected with the menu bar sequence "Edit->Preferences->Advanced" and checking the Enable Java and Enable Java Plugin boxes. The HP-UX Java 1.3.1 Java Runtime Environment and Java Plug-in must have been installed prior to making this selection. Verify that the plugin is installed and available with the menu bar sequence "Help->About Plug-ins".

Install as shown from
http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/java2/sdkrte1_3/index.html

Steve Steel
