Dear Parthiban,

The first thing is to check if this instance is still running by running the "ps -edf | grep oradb".

If this instance is still running, first connect to the database and shtudown this instgance with Force option and then startup again. It should be fine. Don't forget to check previously if there is no user managing this instance.

I hope this should help you.
This instance was not running and further in the trace, the instance number is "0"... Whenever I issue a startup either with nomount or just start specifying the pfile or not, I get this error... Sometimes when I use nomount and then issue the resetlogs I get the other big error...

Parthiban

Hi,

Good point - can you recover at all?
You may like to try Andreas' suggestion from SQL*Plus as I gather you're using 9.2 and svrmgrl has been dropped in 9i.
Are you running in archivelog mode? Do you have a backup you can use and then recover to a point in time just before your crash?
Something like:
RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL TIME 18-OCT-2002:15:32:00

cheers.
Barbara
Can you try removing the ipcs entries for Oracle.
If you have two instances on the same machine this could be a problem.

You can reboot the box to clear all the memory used areas of Oracle and try mounting the instance.

Also check the alert log and post the messages when you do a mount or nomount.

Thanks

I'm running up to 10 instances on a single machine. No problems.

Removing old semaphores and queues could be a way to solve the problem.

Since an address mapping error occured it could also help to re-link the executables.

Please provide information if you added any patches to your Linux or Oracle which might cause the problem. Also the information of the alert log might give some hints why the instance crashed.

have fun
Sandro
