What is the easiest way to find out if a server is a NIS master and/or slave?

Also what files are involved in the config?

Thanks

Hi Mike:

ypwhich will instantly identify the domain master.

You can also check /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs for other NIS setup parameters.

Hi

'ypwhich' is the command to check master or slave.
Configuration file is /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs
file. look for the flag 1 and 0

-USA..

Hi,

ypwhich will report the NIS server it is binding to (Slave/Master) but ypwhich -m will indicate the master for the maps

-HTH
Ramesh

William,

You are WAY WAY confused here. The 'yp*' commands, including ypwhich, have nothing at all to do with hardware.

If I understand what you want, you are working on a PC and the easiest thing to do will be to take off the cover and have a look at it.
