topic SW-DIST.2 and PATCH REMOVAL in Operating System - HP-UX

I have upgraded one of my 'K' boxes from HP-UX 10.20 to HP-UX 11.00
I noticed that I have the following files:
/tmp/adm/sw/products/SW-DIST.2
/var/adm/sw/products/SW-DIST.2

Question (1): do I need both of these of the system? I assume that the '/tmp' on is the one I can get rid of.

Question (2): do I need to keep the PATCHES from hp-ux 10.20 on the system after the upgrade?

Thanks for any/all help.
Andy
The upgrade had moved SW-DIST (10.20) to SW-DIST.2 which you can remove if you want - if you dont ever intend to degrade back from 11 to 10.20!

Yes, you can remove the one in /tmp also, and same again, if you dont ever intend to degrade then you can remove all the old 10.20 patches - unless you have some ordered apps from 10.20 you didnt/havent yet upgraded to 11 which means their 10.20 patches may still be in use.

Patching files are normally located under /var/adm/sw/. The reference that you have to /tmp is probably in error or is possible a sybolic link. It might be a good idea to move this data off some place before you delete it though. I wonder if someone made a copy of SW-DIST.2 at some point.

I have not seen any patch that applys to both 10.x and 11.x. I suppose it's not impossible but I have yet to see it. Both 10.20 and 11.0 have a cleanup command for removing previous patches. I'm not sure if the command will remove all of the 10.x patches at once, but I don't know of a reason why it should not. My preference is to do a new install instead of upgrading just to make sure that junk like this is not carried over.

Andrew,
Patch PHCO_22044 for 11.00 contains utilities to help you clean up your patch situation. The "cleanup" utility will work to remove the 10.X patches that you no longer need. The check_patches, show_patches and remove_patches are for 11.00 patches.
