Hi

You have no visible test

How to run Xserver on a server w/o graphics device :
Xvfb (unsupported)

However because you have no graphics device you can see nothing except if the program is visible as running in ps glance top or similar

Steve Steel

Admins,

Is there a way to test XVfb w/o any particular application. The apps guys need XVfb so I installed it and I believe it is up an running, but I'd like to test it before I hand it over to them. How can I test it?

I export my display to the port I started the Xserver as, and run xclock and it looks like it's running--should I see on my screen?

tia,
Frank

since it didn't error that's a good sign ! you shouldn't expect to see anything on your local screen.

my advise is use xwd -out <FILENAME> -root -display hostname:5 ? or whatever xvfb is using

check man xwd if my syntax is a bit out.

use xwud -in <FILENAME> to view locally .... u should see a grey mesh screen (Xvfb) + xclock ?</FILENAME></FILENAME>
