Hi,

as far as i understood VNC it installs a second XServer on your system. Therefore it is limited to XWindows applications.

Also this is keeps you from connecting to a running session on that machine. All normal logins use the standard XServer, while vncclient can only connect to the vnc XServer.

But i allready saw a document describing how to replace the standard XServer with VNC. So you should be able to connect to a running session.

Hope this helps

Regards Stefan

VNC Connection

Hello,

A little history first -
xvnc v3.3.3r2 on hpserver.
vncviewer v3.5 on my PC.
I open an xterm from my PC for hpserver, run vncserver(on port 5902) and then I invoke "vncviewer" on my PC, connect to hpserver:2 and can access my CDE session successfully.

Ideally, I would like to log-on to console, start my CDE session, and get the "same" session using my client (something like PC Anywhere). At present, if I run vncserver from console's CDE, it opens a new CDE session which not only uses more resources (I open good number of xterms and workspaces), it doesn't allow me to use console's enviornment remotely.
Do I have to tweak my ~/.vnc/xstartup file? I am attaching my default xstartup file.

Thanks
...Manjeet
I did some more checking (surfing!) and found that as of today, console displays cannot be redirected with VNC in Unix realm. There are some projects going on (linux for now) so I guess I will wait.

You could *try* using hpterm -C or dtterm -C. The hpterm and dtterm code for the console limits the display to local displays. Since the Vnc server is running locally this *might* work.
