the error is shown is because the *.depot is not a perfect or a comlete file , do a tar tvf PHC)_XXX.depot and you shoulde be able to see what that depot fiel contains . There can be many reasons like ( pathch not downloaded properly etc , this is a standard tar error if the source is not fine .)

you can may be try downloading the apotches again .

Manoj Srivastava

Hello,

I've got a problem when I try to instal several patches:
=======  08/21/02 18:04:02 WETDST  BEGIN swinstall SESSION
(non-interactive)

* Session started for user "root@manon".

* Beginning Selection
* Target connection succeeded for "manon:/".
* "manon:/u01/patch/PHCO_25424.depot":  This source is a tape
device.
* "manon:/u01/patch/PHCO_25424.depot": Cannot open the logfile
on this target or source. Possibly the media is read-only or
there is a permission problem. Check the daemon logfile and
"/var/tmp/swagent.log" on this host for more information.
NOTE: The match operation failed to find software in the source that
matches software on the target.
NOTE: Cannot continue the "swinstall" task.

=======  08/21/02 18:04:04 WETDST  END swinstall SESSION
(non-interactive)

And that's the same with lots of others...

Could you help

Regards

PS: The PHCO_xxx file is on a Lv, not tape :))

a) check the permission of the patch depot files and make it read/execute to others.
b) If you are using 11.0, then in the swinstall window, go to Manage patch selection and then choose "automatically select patch to the target"

gl,

It looks like youve used the -x patch_match_target=true option but this failed to match the patch youre trying to install with whats installed already (eg. you may have a patch for a C compiler but the C compiler is not installed, or you have a newer version of this patch already installed)

Check very carefully this patch is what you want and if so then dont use the -x patch_match_target=true option (for 11, or -x match_target for 10.20). We often find we have to remove this option for individual patches such as security patches. They then install fine.
