stm is part of the Support Tools for HP 9000 Systems.

This comes for free either on CD or you can download from:

http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=B6191AAE

The website explains what it's used for etc...

STM is cool for finding out about your hardware, but what's better is EMS. With EMS (Event Monitoring Service) you can monitor hardware and send an email, snmp alert whatever say if a disk fails or something you're monitoring goes wrong.

This is really useful.

Hope this helps.

Scott.
Apart from what Scott's URL link to download STM you should check this documentation also.

http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/diag/st/st_prod.htm

It has pretty much all you need to know about STM and EMS plus links to STM examples and tutorial.

When you have a Reboot after Panic with error message" Data memory protection fault"
you can find out with CSTM[Commandline Support Tool Manager] more HW-related error messages.

on command prompt you type in:
cstm
...

cstm> map
---->here you get a device list, from which you can choose the device for analysis

cstm>sel d 52
---->with this you select from the list device with number 52

cstm> info
---->now the tool starts a program and collects information about the device

cstm> wait il
--->now the raw data will be converted and you can the the result

cstm>ru
---> select Utility :e.g. logtool

Logtool Utility>vda
-- Logtool Utility: View Memory Report --
---->here you see error messages about the concerned device

With this information it is easier to decide if there is a HW problem or not.

CSTM ist a extensiv tool with which you can work, but you need some time to like it.

You can use the STM with its graphical interface (using stm), with the ascii-menu-guided version (using mstm) or with the command-line version (using cstm-but only for those who really like it).
