Can you give a few more specifics on the type of workstation? What model, type / speed of CPU, amount of RAM, swap, etc.

I didn't see anything from top that pointed to any runaway processes or anything. If this is a small workstation with not a lot of RAM, the performance you have may be as good as you get.

A load average of 2 isn't bad.

Depending on how many windows you have open and what they are, that could possibly account for the load average.

I have a C200 with 512MB RAM and a single 200 MHz processor running 11i (32 bit). It currently has a load average similar to yours.

# uptime
9:31am up 4 days, 23:26, 12 users, load average: 3.34, 2.85, 2.58

It is running OK and I don't have any problems. I really wouldn't be too concerned with the load average you are seeing.
You should not worry about your high load, there is a bug in 11.11 which makes the calculation a little wrong. Theres a patch availalable to get the correct values, but really its not neccessary to install if you can tolerate the innaccuracy. The bottom line is: your load is not high.
