Problems booting system without a console attached

Hi
When I reboot a v11:00 Unix Server the server will not come back unless a console is attached. Is there something I can set to say boot without a console connected.

i concur.It needs some form of console for the boot messages and if not there it will hang on the buffers

What model of server are we talking about? Usually the system should boot without console. "Without" means completely disconnected or powered off (i.e. no DTR signall).

I have servers that boot without consoles, especially in my LAB, where we use a "floating" console to trouble shoot but we don't use it to boot.

Is this maybe a "V" class server?

The server is an L2000. Other servers we have eg N Classes boot ok without a console

We have several L-Class systems here that boot fine w/o console. OK, they have the LAN console configured also... so I just removed the LAN config from the GSP and it's still the same... no problems.

Same here .. L2000 .. boots up fine without any console connection. What's your console path ? On an L, I think it should be 0/0/4/0.0, if you leave it as it is, it should boots up without console.

We have several UX machines (L class, N class even D class) and no problem. Same with a HP3000.

Hi Helen, long time no see :)

You should be able to boot without the console as my l2k's boot fine.
But if you still cant manage to boot without one, you could just get a web console of ebay for ??10 - ??20 and get round it that way.
