topic fbackup in Operating System - HP-UX

Hi, I tried to perform a fbackup onto a remote DDS drive and it failed half way through. Subsequently, my remote drive is 'dead'. It refuses to respond to any command and I can't even eject it with the button on the drive itself. Can someone advise? Thanks.

HI,

You should check if there is any process running on the remote machine which is related to the dds drive.

Kill the process if you find it and it will work again.

C.

Hi,
Try with power off/on the drive. If this not help disconnect the drive. If you still can't eject the tape the drive seems to be faulty.

Hi, thanks for the responses. I had checked the processes and couldn't see any that has anything to do with the drive. It's an internal drive and does not come with a power switch, only an eject button. Thanks.

Hi,

Try rebooting the machine and start backup again. If goes smooth then tape drive doesn't have any problem. if breaks again check for the link to the remote server

Try to hold down eject for longer than 10sec which is a forced eject, which should work, unless you have some hw problems there.

Best regards...
Dietmar.

Hi:

If all else fails, shutdown -h, then cycle power. I've had some tape drive problems in the past that were related to my SCSI controller. The problems would only go away after cycling power.

Tom
