Chris,
Which Teststation Software is installed on your system? You need alt least 3.2 to install hp-ux 11i
You can verify the version using the following command as sppuser on the teststation: diag_version

I need some help. I have been trying to cold install 11i on a v2500 running 11.0. Well, it looks as if everything installs fine, reboots and it asks me to network the server. I go thru this just fine and it reboots. At this point on the reboot it hangs at

start syncer daemon

and it just hangs. Can't do anything else at this point. I have to take the system down hard to get out of it. I tryed to boot into single user mode but i get an error from EXEC that says file or directory can't be found. any ideas? I have tryed the June 2002 CD's and the Sept 2002 cds.

Chris,

You may want to hit the key combo of <CONTROL><SHIFT> | (pipe symbol) to break out of the startup script. You can then check your logs for what may be causing the problem.

Hope this helps!
Eric</SHIFT></CONTROL>

i can't boot into single user mode. when i try ISL doesn't work with a message of file or directory not found.

11.0 works okay on this system. Does this have to do with firmware? HP told me i didn't have to be concerned with firmware on this box like you do on an N class and told me everything should be fine. But it makes me wonder.

Chris,
That makes it a little bit harder to verify if the firmware level of your box is suitable to 11i but not impossible. But it is impossible to upgrade the firmware if it doesn???t fit. You cannot do this without the Teststation
You receive the firmware versions after the system past the power on self test (post) it starts with ???PDC Firmware Version Information??? could you please post the versions of:
PDC_ENTRY
POST
OBP
SPP_PDC
Chris,
I???m afraid that I the firmware version suits. It???s not the current one (3.2) but it should work
There is a way to bring a V-Class server to ISL, but it???s useless. To boot to single user mode you need to enter the following string at the Boot Console Handler (Command prompt)
bo ???is
(fare to easy, isn???t it?)

The V-Class was originally designed by Convex running spp-ux and not hp-ux. Due to that are the firmware layer and the OS-loader different.
i seem to have 2 separate issues

1. i can't load 11i. Install goes fine until boot up and it hangs on "start syncer daemon" Could this have something to do with the cd's trying to install ISL? This is with the v connected directly to a console

2. When i connect the workstation to the v (instead of the console) i can't get into the v from the upper most screen. It doesn't give me a prompt.

I am pretty lost by this point
and would think that if it were firmware issues i would get errors on install stating so.

The V class is certified for 11i right? I think so.

If you are trying the upgrade, I'd forget it, I went through that in class and would never do it in real life.

If your're not doing it, do a cold install.

At the console you should be able to bypass the error as instructed above.

Someone here might be able to help, but this sounds like a backline support call to me.

Steve
