Ok, here it's a contest. I just submitted this call online, and I'm going to post the question here. Let's see who can solve it first!

I'm trying to install the latest patch bundle for 10.20 and having problems. I
installed it with no problems on what is supposed to be an identical D390 in a
service guarded cluster.

However on this node (the active node in this cluster) I get the following
error in swagent.log.

-------  12/05/02 15:49:33 CST  END swmodify SESSION

* Installing fileset "PHKL_9271.PHKL_9271,r=B.10.00.00.AA" (39
of 184).

-------  12/05/02 15:49:44 CST  BEGIN swmodify SESSION

* Session started for user "root@natasha.aebs.com".

* Source:
* Target:        natasha:/
* Software selections:
OS-Core.CORE-KRN
* File selections:
/usr/conf/lib/libhp-ux.a

* Beginning Selection Phase.

* Validating the selected files and control files.
* Selection Phase succeeded.

* Beginning Analysis Phase.
* Analysis Phase succeeded.

* Beginning Modification Phase.
* Modification Phase succeeded.

-------  12/05/02 15:49:45 CST  END swmodify SESSION

NOTE: Building a new kernel based on template file "/stand/system"
Compiling /stand/build/conf.c...
Loading the kernel...
/usr/ccs/bin/ld: Duplicate symbol "st_ats_enabled" in files /stand/build/conf.o
and /usr/conf/lib/libhp-ux.a(scsi_tape.o)

/usr/ccs/bin/ld: Unsatisfied symbols:
kpageoutcnt (data)
/usr/ccs/bin/ld: Found 1 duplicate symbol(s)
/usr/ccs/bin/ld: (Warning) Linker features were used that may not be supported
in future releases. Because kernel-related filesets were
installed, this command must be executed by "swinstall",
without failures, before the load can continue. Check the
above output for details about the failure.
NOTE: The Install Phase has suspended.
I'm not much for contests, but since this post currently has 0 responses, I'm game.

The machines may be identical, except the machine which is producing this error has had PHKL_16751 reinstalled, hence the duplicate symbol.

You'll need to recover using a doc like KBRC00006852 HPUX INSTALL: Recovering from a force install of the LITS patch

Cheryl

I had this problem and resolve d it by modifying the script enforcing the errors - I would not recommend this for the novice user - but if you follow the errors and build by hand the kernel, you can do it.

Ignore the "linker features" warning - its informational only.
Make sure next time you skip that one catchall patch mentioned in the previous post

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but Its been over a year and a half since I had this problem.

Hi,

if you reinstall PHKL_16751 then you will get this error.

To solve this you have to reinstall following list of patches:

[PHKL_16751/PACHRDME/English]  :LVM:JFS:PCI:SCSI:SIG_IGN:SIGCLD:LITS:
[PHCO_16591/PACHRDME/English]  :fsck_vxfs:VxFS:JFS:cumulative:
[PHCO_18563/PACHRDME/English]  :LVM:commands:cumulative:y2k:year2000:
[PHNE_19936/PACHRDME/English]  :PANIC:XPORT:ARPA:Transport:cumulative:
[PHKL_16957/PACHRDME/English]  :physical:dump:devices:configuration:
[PHKL_21661/PACHRDME/English]  :panic:LOFS:lo_realvfs:
[PHKL_20611/PACHRDME/English]  :UFS:inodes:process:hang:sleep:
[PHKL_17858/PACHRDME/English]  :unrecognized:filesystem:mount:access:disc:
[PHKL_21595/PACHRDME/English]  :VxFS:JFS:mount:fsck:cumulative:
[PHKL_19756/PACHRDME/English]  :buffer:cache:hang:performance:cumulative:
[PHKL_22286/PACHRDME/English]  :stape:tape2:DLT1:Ultrium-1:cumulative:

As you know, you have to set the following options:

[X] reinstall filesets even the same revision exists
[ ] enforce dependency analysis errors on agent
[  ] enforce script failures

This way it is possible to build a kernel.

This patches can be downloaded by:

ftp://europe-ffs.external.hp.com
---> hp-ux_patches
---> S800
---> 10.x

Best regards,
Armin

Sean (or anybody, actually),
I'm experiencing the exact same problem on my D370 after a patch install trying to fix problems caused by a patch install. I'm in that all too familiar unix system administration situation in that I'd be delighted to just be back to whatever was wrong when I started down this road. I've tried everything mentioned in every post about this except that I can't access the document that Cheryl mentions. Did you ever get this fixed and if so what did you do? Can someone tell me how to get that doc on recovering? All my searches turn up nothing but maybe I'm starting in the wrong place?

Candie
