Gentlemen;
I have an rp2470 on HPUX11.11. My DBA needs the 'zip' utility for this OS.
Coul you please let me know where I could find this utlity for download.

Hi,

you can use
/usr/contrib/bin/gzip

which can be used to compress and expand files.

check the man pages of gzip.

ALso check the hp porting center for

Just my two cents. gzip has provided me the best compression, better than compress and better than zip over the years.

To make database backups easier to manage, first I tar all the files into one big tarball, then I gzip it.

This applies to cold backups, where at least for oracle you need all of the files to be from the same backup.
