      <description>This is just a guess but it may be that you have a corruption in /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow.  Have a look at them manually and see if there is anythign obviously wrong with them.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt;However, it could be a whole host of things that is causing this error but most of them start to look a bit nasty compared with just a corrupted passwd file.</description>

      <description>This message is always a file problem... on writing on your HD... So /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow is a good bet... &lt;BR /&gt;Check also your rights, verifying that you 'su -' to enter this command.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;hth&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;J</description>
