If your are running XFree, see the Keyboard section in /etc/X11/XFree86.config and take a look to the line

ServerNumLock

I hope this helps.

Frank.

I am experiencing a similar problem, but I
am also using a BETA driver for my graphics
card and was warned that this problem exists.

If I boot and come up in single-user mode
(which is default on my system) the
monitor is in terminal mode, all is fine.

I can then go thru init 3 to get the operating environment up. Then I log in
still in terminal mode, and then I do a
<STARTX>. This brings up the graphics
environment and everything is fine.

When I want to bring the system down, I
exit the X world and I return to terminal
emulation - and the keyboard is fine.

If I go into init 5 and let it grab the
console, I'm fine while I'm in the X
environment. When I try to go to init 1,
I lose access to the keyboard.

Anyway, You might try starting up the
X environment when you are already logged
in and seeing how it goes.

regards,
tonyp
</STARTX>

Hi,

First you have to detect where the problem is. I suggest that you logon from a terminal (telnet) and try to change your keyboard. Reboot and see what happens. If the problem is solved, you can try to download a patch from Redhat for your keyboard. If the problem is not solved, I would suggest that you download some keyboard tools (also from Redhat).

Hope it works,

Dieter Degrendele
Unix/Oracle Administrator
