I tried SUsE for my internet server running Apache; never did quite get the SuSE firewall working exactly right. After a couple of days of frustration, I decided to switch to Fedora Core 1 (9 bucks from cheapbytes.com) which I'm now setting up.

My vote would be to go with IPtables; probably because of my bad experience with SuSE firewall. You can get lots more help with IPtables.

Good luck !!!

Vern

hi

can I use professionally SuSEfirewall for the internet webserver ?

or is it better to build the firewall by myself for example with iptables ?

what's your opinion about SuSEfirewall ?

kind regards
chris

Hi,

SuSefirewall is a firewall rule generator tool. which is based on iptables firewall only . rule generator tools simplifies the firewall configuration tasks.

your idea of building a new firewall is nice.

regards,

U.SivaKumar

I almost agree but am not too sure.

If you are not too experienced at firewalling and the system is "critical" then I might be tempted to go for the SuSE product as it will help you should you miss things out.

Otherwise I'd suggest you do it yourself. You'll know it better and you'll be able to apply that knowledge to any Linux system.
