Did you first delete or resize existing partitions on your HD to make empty partitions for Linux. This is the first step in the install. I found that first step to be most difficult and dangerous. It is easy to loose your capability to duel boot back into your original operating system.

This should be easy to fix, sounds like AS 2.1 isn't loading the correct scsi driver. Goto http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/19863.html and create a controller driver disk, reboot your server with as 2.1 disc 1, at the prompt type ->
linux dd

During the install, it will prompt you to insert the driver disk into the floppy drive and the installer will detect your drives then..

only other reasons i can think of is a SCSI terminiation issue... always good to re-check this..

otherwise could be bad hardware..

Two recommendations:

- try install from RHEL2.1 Q3 update CDs
- type "fdisk -l" in the shell window during installation - do you see any disks?

Rgds,
Vitaly

From the description given thus far, it definately sounds like you've not used the correct 'cciss' driver during the install-boot process.

Quick check. Do you know if your SmartArray is a 6xxx or 6xx series of controller (U320 RAID) ? If it is, then this is definately the issue.

The appropraite drivers and documentation on how to use them are available for download from the HP site, right here infact:

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/19863.html

The one-step back:

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/88_3990.html

Lists all the RHAS2.1 drivers for the ML570 (G2) platform.
