Your system may need a specific driver for your drives : See on 6.2 what modules are loaded. And try to install 8 in text mode and specify load of equivalent modules.

Changing ditribution may also seem a good idea...
So the system doesn't get to the boot loader at all?

It shoulds like the Red Hat 8 distribution is not compatible with the laptop, even though it installs.

Try Red Hat 9 and see if it has better support.

SEP

Which boot loader do you use.

Lilo gives you an indication of where it has failed (number of letters of the word LILO it manages to print). Grub probably does the something similar.

It would seem GRUB reports an error number that corresponds to this list. Do you get an error number?

http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/Stage2-errors.html#Stage2%20errors

Chakri,

if support by RedHat is not an issue, you may even want to go further than RedHat 9 and try Fedora.

JP

Hello Chakri,

I concurr with JP, Laptop hardware is often pretty specialized and picky, so a newer distro might really help. Also, do you have any "unusual" devices connected to the Laptop while booting (like parallel port or USD attached CD or floppy)?

Greetings, Martin

We had similiar problems installing on 1850R servers. You need to disable probing and the install will work.

Good luck.
