What is the bahaviour of EMC and HDS SAN storage connected to a linux host in direct connect (without FC switches) and using Loop topology for exporting a Lun to the host
do they produce a lip (loop initilization
protocol) on export of lun or a user has
to do rescanning from the host whenever
a Lun is exported from the storage box.
I don't know about EMC, but HDS storage 9500v use N port to connect directly. HDS storage have only two options:
1) Pont-to-point for direct or switch connection
2) Loop for Hub connection

When you say loop does HDS issue LIP on
exporting the volume to the host.
I am not concerned what type the host is
but the way the storage box tells the host
driver that there is a change in the number of devices similar like you issuing RSCN
(state change notification) in case of Fabric mode.
