Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I am not using the tg3 NIC card in one of the machine:

tg3 45600 0 (unused)
3c59x 28552 1

I plugged in another 3com card in it.

But, other machine is using tg3. Ironically, the machine that is using the 3com card is freezing frequently.

I can disable the NICs completely. Even better, I can remove the modules from the kernel. Not sure that will help or not.

I found this in Redhat Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=101615

The symptoms of the problem stated there is identical to my problem. But, I am more worried about the "Resolution" part. It says "WONTFIX". :)

Guess, I have no choice but upgrading to Fedora.

Regards,

Zia
Has anyone install kernel 2.4.21 or more in Redhat 7.3 in a DL380 G3?

If yes, what about the support for cciss smart array driver? Any input on this?

Thanks in advance.

I wasn't aware thatn RH7.3 was a supported OS on the DL380's.

The 'cciss' driver should be available in that kernel that will work on most SmartArray cards, but it isn't the latest/greatest/supported driver for the platform.

Are you just trying to update the kernel, or are you updating the entire distribution?
Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am just trying to update the kernel.

It seems that my redhat 7.3 in the two of the DL380 G3 (both of them) are freezing every now and then. There are no kernel OOPS, no error messages in the logs. I have other dl380 with same configurations but with fedora core 1, and these machines never gave any problem so far.

I have even upgraded the RAM in those machines thinking it my be a bounce buffer problem. Optimised the CPU performence for I/O as these machines are email servers and creates and deletes a lot of small files. No luck.

So, as a last option I am trying to upgrade the kernel and see what happens (of course in a test spare dl380 ;)).

Have anyone encoutered this kind of problem in DL380s?

Best regards.

No, never seen this sort of problem before.

Are you planning on using a RH-modified kernel, or a pure one from kernel.org?

If you are using fedora on other boxes and know that works, you might try getting the kernel-source RPM for that kernel revision, and recompiling the kernel RPM on your RH7.3 box.

That'd be the least amount of things to change. This however isn't the easiest thing to do, and will probalby require other packages to be updated as well.

Hi all,
the problem is known and regards the driver of the ethernet card (tg3). You must upgrade your NIC driver to bcm5700 !
Chech redhat.com/errata or hp.com/linux and select your proliant.

I use 2.4.18-27 on rh8 and everything is fine.
I strongly suggest to shift to RH8+ and patch almost all rpms ('till the end of this month you should find the rpms on redhat site, from may they''l sureli remove all of it!)

It helps.
Peace, R.
