Hi,
How do I mimic the functionality of taking a HP-UX ignite image on a SuSE Linux enterprise server? I'm not very familiar with the different backup options so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I beleive there has been a number of threads on the exact same topic over the past few months.

There are many tools available that allow you to do this sort of thing.

One that seems to get mentioned in every thread is the 'mondo rescue' package, allowing you to create full recovery ISO's to burn to CD's.

Other mainstream backup packages allow you to do the same sorts of thigns, and even use the one-button-recovery features of HP tape drives (Backup Edge for example).

Any specific media type you want to create the restore image onto?

There is a product set called mondo and mindi that mimic the functionality of Ignite.

You could make a dd copy to a second disk if you have one.
