Hi,

grub has an interactive mode, where it will ask
you for each start up script if you want to execute it.

Greetings, Martin

Hi,

Grub is a bootloader, which is used for all recent RH versions. I am not sure about RH 7 though, you might still use LILO. What do you see right at the start of the boot sequence?

Greetings, Martin

After the kernel starts, RH will prompt you to press "I" for Interactive boot-up mode.

That's what you want to get in to.

To temporarily disable nfs, change the permissions on /etc/init.d/nfs to non execute.

That will produce an error but the boot will continue.

Or: go to the links in /etc/rc3.d and change do a mv from a name starting to a capital S to something else.

/etc/rc3.d/S14nfslock
/etc/rc4.d/S14nfslock
/etc/rc5.d/S14nfslock

I usually move them to something with a small s.

SEP

Then NFS will will not start.

He Peter,

If you hit the I key right before the boot sequence starts, you'll get interactive mode.

Try it, its fun.

As Stuart said.

SEP

SEP,
with redhat you don't have to move files into /etc/rc*.d
you can use a command named
#chkconfig SERVICE [on|off]
eg. #chkconfig nfs off
will turn off nfs at boot.
to stop the service you have to issue
#service nfs stop

To check services starting at boot you can issue
#chkconfig --list

For info
#man chkconfig

Peace, R.
