Hi Guys,

thanks for your input. We were eventually given the 37 kernel by Redhat. All seems happy at this level.

Cheers,
Gordon

Hi All,

I hope you can help with my problem. I am trying to setup the following config and am experiencing problems with regards compatibility of various software products:

SetUp
-------
HP rx4640 server running Redhat Advanced Server 2.1 (kernel version 2.4.18-e.31smp ia64)
Platform Kit v3c installed
Secure Path 3.0B installed
Storage is EVA 5k cabinet

Problem
----------
We wish to use OCFS (oracle cluster file server). This setup is part of a RAC cluster.
OCFS requires a kernel version of at least 37, therefore a kernel upgrade is required.

OCFS version we are using is 2.4.18-e-smp-1.0.11-1
OCFS tools version is 1.0.10-1

The only complete version of kernel (source,docs,utils,etc..etc..) which we can seem to find/download is version 2.4.18-e43smp from Redhat.

When we download and install ver 43 of the kernel, the platform kit then complains on install:

Your current kernel does not match 2.4.18-e.31, 2.4.18-e.31smp,
2.4.18-e.37, 2.4.18-e.37smp, 2.4.18-e.41, or 2.4.18-e.41smp
so this RPM does not contain precompiled modules for your kernel.

If you have a qla2300 module loaded that is not version 6.06.50, it may be
because you have one that is loaded from the initrd at boot time.
You will need to remake the initrd using the mkinitrd command if this

Also Secure Path isn't happy with this new kernel version

Solution???
-------------
We need a kernel version on which OCFS, Platform kit and Secure Path are happy. Maybe version 37 ?
Or, we need versions of OCFS, Platform Kit, Secure Path which are happy with Kernel ver 43.

Does nayone have any ideas on where we could get a kernel version to meet our requirements? Or do we need to look at newer versions of the platform kit / Secure Path (3.0C)

All help greatly appreciated! If you need any more info please let me know!

Kind Regards,
Gordon
Hey Gordon,

You have the newest Storage Platform Kit and ugrading to SP 3.0vC will not help you because it will want e.41. Your best bet to make all solution stacks happy is dwngrade to e.41 kernel or e37. Or install SP w/ -f on e.43 and recompile the qlogic driver manually on e.43.

I assume you purchased this configuration through HP, you support rep. should be able to direct to the appropriate kernel.

I have this problem right now with another customer whom is trying to update through RHN and it wants to update the kernel to e.43 which is not a validated HP solution stack as of right now.

If your internal email me and I can probably send you the e.41 kernel rpms.

cheers!
ds.
