Dushyant,

Your problem may come from password encryption. Depending on what kind of encryption is defined on your smb.conf, your W2000 machines may have to be patched.

I don't have a linux box here, and I can't find it, but I know there is something about that on samba distribution (you may have the patches and explanation in /usr/doc/samba or on samba.org)

Regards,

Fred
From Samba documentation :

"If it says â bad passwordâ , then the likely causes are:

You have shadow passwords (or some other password system) but didn't compile in support for them in smbd.

Your valid users configuration is incorrect.

You have a mixed case password and you haven't enabled the password level option at a high enough level.

The path line in smb.conf is incorrect. Check it with testparm.

You enabled password encryption but didn't map UNIX to Samba users. Run: smbpasswd -a username
"

Regards,
Common problems:

Password is expired on the Linux side, or perhaps locked, check that and try again.

User id numbers don't match between two Linux servers.

smbpasswd -a <USERNAME> <PASSWORD>
command needs to be run.

Integration document is not being followed. Here is a look at a few good ones.

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/4502/CIFS_W2000_Interop.pdf

http://search.hp.com/redirect.html?url=http%3A//forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do%3FthreadId%3D180198&qt=Samba+%2BCIFS/9000+%2BWindows+%2BIntegration&hit=1

Note that documents for CIFS/9000, HP's port of samba work perfectly well in a linux environment.

SEP
Jerusalem</PASSWORD></USERNAME>
