      <description>mgetty appears to think you have a modem connected, and is attempting to manipulate the DTR line. Not necessary with a dumb terminal.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Check section 6.4 of this link, it deals with configuring mgetty for a direct serial connection.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;A href="http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/Remote-Serial-Console-HOWTO.html" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/Remote-Serial-Console-HOWTO.html&lt;/A&gt;</description>

      <description>according to section 6.4, the config is correct, here's what is in my mgetty conf file:&lt;BR /&gt;port ttyS0&lt;BR /&gt; speed 57600&lt;BR /&gt; direct yes&lt;BR /&gt; data-only yes&lt;BR /&gt; toggle-dtr yes&lt;BR /&gt; need-dsr yes&lt;BR /&gt; port-owner root&lt;BR /&gt; port-group root&lt;BR /&gt; port-mode 600&lt;BR /&gt; login-prompt @ \P login:\040&lt;BR /&gt; login-time 60&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Sorry, upon further inspection thats the setup for a dumb modem. Maybe try disabling need-dsr and toggle-dtr? Also check section 11 to verify correct wiring of your cable.</description>
