hi

when i try to install linux using redhat 8 cd-1, it hangs at partition check, hda,

same can be installed with redhat 6.2 cd,
laptop has one ntfs partiton, do i need to pass some special arguments

I had similar problem. Try newer distro (Fedora) and everything will be OK.

What I guess is that the partitioner utility has a partition checking thingie which is checking the integrity of your partition table. I really am guessing, but anyway you should try out Debian GNU and drop down to the manual partitioning via fdisk.

at the time of installation pls give
linux ide=nodma

This has solved the problem for me.
Still i had not installed the linux on my laptop , please give me the info u had used to load linux.
