The MP prompt is from a HPUX system GSP(MP) CM> prompt, is it not?

If so, MA will return you to the main menu.

Francesco,

After system control has been passed to the kernel, there is no access to EFI shell anymore. The only way to reach it is to access console during the startup(via MP, CO for instance), and in the EFI main menu select EFI shell.

EFI stands for Extensible Firmware Interface, it is like a BIOS PC, but has the capability of executing a shell to run bootloaders and other DOS-like programs as you want. After loading operationg system, it is not possible to access EFI, just like you cannot access BIOS when a PC OS has been loaded.

Cheers from Brazil,

Celso

Francesco,

If you access the console and see nothing, or you system is down, or there is no getty from operating system on your console port. If it is down, power it up in power button, access MP, type CM, type RS, type Y, type exit, type CO, Type <CNTRL-E>+c+f and wait for the firmware startup. You will see self test messages on console during 30s-1min, and you will get the EFI menu where you can choose EFI shell, and other boot options if the system already has OS installed. See example:

EFI Boot Manager ver 1.10 [14.60]
Firmware ver 2.21 [4306]

Please select a boot option
Red Hat Linux Advanced Server
HP-UX 11i
Windows 2003
EFI Shell[Builtin]
Boot option maintenance menu
Security/Password
Menu
Celso</CNTRL-E>
