Absolutely.

I've personally tested Veritas 3.4 and 4.5 and 5.0.

You will need licensing(expensive) and /etc/host entiries for the master server to be able to do networking and backups.

SEP

Chris,

you need to install veritas client on the linux box which you want to backup and put a entry ( Veritas Master server's IP )in /etc/hosts file in order to let client know where its data should go. usually, you work on veritas master server ( could be NT, Solaris, whatever platform ) to control the backup.( schedule, media server monitor, etc. )

Cheers !

YJ

actually, you wont need the netbackup software, just the backup client. these licenses run about $100/server (Software Specturm $103.60)

my mistake, i assumed you already had a server. my point was that you only need one server. we use backupexec and successfully back up 9 windows servers and several HPUX systems with one tape array and one backup exec server

Chris,

Did you ever get a "how-to" or instructions on doing this? I'm not much of a Linux guy, but I have to figure out the same thing using BackupExec 9.1 for a single Fedora server.
