RH8.0 & J7000 Server

I would like to load RH8 on a J7000 server. I noticed that it does not have PS2 ports for a mouse or keyboard, or VGA monitor port.
Has anyone done this?
What is the procedure?

If its pa-risc it won't work. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

If the box has a USB connector, you can connect a keyboard and a mouse. For graphics, you'll need a graphics card, perhaps http://partsurfer.hp.com can help you out.

If it has a serial console and is pa-risc as I suspect, you may be able to connect a serial console and install hp-ux.

Hi Ron,

i think the Visualize J7000 Workstation is i PA-RISC powered workstations. RedHat will only run on intel architecture such as Pentium up to Pentium 4 and AMD Processes (32bit and 64bit) as well on 486 i think.

to install a linux on PA-RISC there are two ways:

1) Do not install linux, yust install HP-UX 10.20 (32bit) or HP-UX11i (64bit) and then install the linux packages you like to have (i have this done on a HP9000/b2600 about two years ago).
Have a look at:
http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/
for precompiled gnu software for HP-UX.

2) try to install debian linux, because they support much more platforms than RedHat. Have a look at:
http://www.debian.org/

for ISO images:
http://www.debian.org/CD/http-ftp/

Thanks for the reply. I will check on the Debian ISO and see about getting it. This is a big experiment for me. I am learning as I go. I will check to see what the processor setup is on the machine.
