RH AS 2.1 freezing once of twice a week on ML370 G3

Hi,

we have an ML370 G3 machine that hangs once or twice a week. The operating system is RedHat AS 2.1 with kernel 2.4.9-e.25enterprise.
Has anyone experinced the same issue.

Hi

The reasons for the hang may be many but you can try these

1.Try and run the hardware diagnostics (need a downtime to do this) most of the time it comes good.
2.If you contact RedHat the first thing they would tell you is to upgrade the kernel now they kernel -40(maybe even higher)
3.Check your application in our environment some applications take so much resource and it hangs the system
4.Check the resource you may want to increase the swap if it used up.
5.Some kernel tuning may be required absed on the application.

hi muhammad,

is this a mulitprocessor machine? if it is i have heard of some similar problems. sometimes it helps to disable the smp and use only one cpu other way is to upgrade to RH AS 3.0. try to disable power saving functions like apm or acpi in bios this will propably help.

Disable the hpasm insight manager agents for a few days and see what happens.
