I would check into trouble with your disks. There may be a bad one, or one that was overloaded and responded too late to the kernel.

SEP

do you have IDE or SCSI harddisks?
if your harddisk is SCSI, messages in syslog related to CDROM drive, so your hd is OK.

hi Tammy Liang,

do you see this error more often during work? if it only seen once during boot sequence it's ok. but if you get this error often during work: thats bad!

if this error means that the harddrive rejects a command. this could indicate that you have a harddrive with a buggy firmware or the drive is near death.

do you use smartd and have s.m.a.r.t. enabled in the bios? if yes then look if smart reports errors from your harddisk (bad sectors or something like that).

best regards,

johannes

Also, depending on your version of Linux, look to see if a patch is available. This error comes up in a lot of bug reports.

So IMHO your hardware is OK [lshw just probing different devices]

and

we're waiting for our *points* :-|

I have the same trouble, it seems that the lshw program scan the hardwardware,

In fact i have no trouble, and i try a way with hp support in order to put a filter for the files messages*

something like that : in
/etc/modprobe.conf
alias block-major-43 off
alias char-major-97 off
alias char-major-188 off
alias char-major-6 off
